Improving transportation of mining site employees in Tanzania

Problem

In Tanzania, Wialon’s partner Rampart Security Services provides GPS monitoring services in multiple fields, including the mining sector. One of their clients, Isamilo, offers transportation solutions to companies with a fleet of more than 50 vehicles. Isamilo faced the following challenges in its business:

• Delays in staff transportation to the mining site of a client. When a corporate bus fails to pick up workers on time, and they are late to their shifts, it results in lessened productivity and financial losses for the employer.
• Lack of strict speed control. Isamilo, as well as its clients, are interested in preventing vehicles from exceeding speed limits in the predefined areas. 
• Night driving risks. Night driving is forbidden on mining sites, but the rule is often neglected in practice, which needed to be addressed as well.

Solution

The Wialon monitoring platform was offered to Isamilo as a turnkey monitoring solution that doesn’t need extra apps to solve the company’s issues effectively. The company conducted a PoC test on another project of a smaller scale first. After the attempt proved successful, Isamilo implemented the solution into the corporate transportation project. 

• Isamilo uses Teltonika FMB120 vehicle trackers selected for their high-quality sensors and support of drivers’ ID keys. ID keys are manually bound to each driver to check their performance, including speeding and compliance with the schedule.
• The data from the trackers is sent to Wialon. There, the parties can monitor vehicle speed and receive timely alarms (emails and mobile notifications) if a driver exceeds the imposed speed limits. The information about bus performance lets the companies take appropriate disciplinary actions. 
• If the bus doesn’t arrive at the pick-up point on time, the company’s worker in the control room notices the fact on the map and contacts the driver to clarify the details. 

Isamilo conducted live training sessions for the client’s staff in charge of vehicle monitoring.
